Pendentive | Byzantine, Dome & Vaulting | Britannica
July 20, 1998 - During the Renaissance and the Baroque the preference for domed churches, especially in Roman Catholic Europe and Latin America, gave great importance to the pendentive. History of medieval Arabic and Western European domes - Wikipedia
December 16, 2025 - The palace dome was supported by terracotta figures where the pendentives or squinches would have been. The dome was over the porch of a great bath or throne room at the bath complex. The calderia of early Islamic bath complexes at Amra, Sarraj, and Anjar were roofed with stone or brick domes. The caldarium of the early Islamic bath at Qasr Amra contains "the most completely preserved astronomical cupola decoration", a decorative idea for bath domes that would long continue in the Islamic world.

August 1, 2024 - Also called domes on pendentives or pendentive domes (a term also applied to sail vaults), compound domes have pendentives that support a smaller diameter dome immediately above them, as in the Hagia Sophia, or a drum and dome, as in many Renaissance and post-Renaissance domes, with both forms resulting in greater height. One of the earliest types of ribbed vault, the first known examples are found in the Great Mosque of CΓ³rdoba in the 10th century.
